I Have Seen Him -> As a child visiting various parts of the Chicago area with my parents the divide between the rich people sailing on Lake Michigan, shopping on the Golden Mile of Michigan Avenue, and the homeless I saw in the alleys of Wells Street inspired me to try to capture the discrepancies in values and life between the rich and poor. Matthew 8:20, Matthew 25:35 through 25:40 I am very grateful for Timothy’s permission to use a picture of his sculpture which has a story that involves Pope Francis and apparently has been stolen as well!

Scored for voice and orchestra. I apologize for my vocals, my attempt was intended to make it sound a bit as if I was on stage with the orchestra. I still don’t have that completely worked out and my voice is not strong. (collaboration with a good singer would be welcome)

I Have Seen Him

I have seen Him
I have Seen Him there
Lying down
Waiting for one of you to care!

On the lake front
On the Golden Mile
There are people
Who won’t invite me for a while.

The sailboats on the lake
Create impressionistic pictures
Are the people there to celebrate
Or do they just wander?

I have seen Him
I have seen Him there
Down on Wells street
Waiting for one of you to care!
