jjj (a setting of a poem by Bruce Andrews)

Bruce Andrews 1996

This is a musical setting of Bruce Andrew’s poem “jjj” from his book “Moebius” thanks to PennSound archive.

To create the music I hijacked Norm Harris’ Y Class Steam Locomotive Bell sample and his percussion piece Ilesa and added these to elements to a 19 note per octave guitar solo that was split in 8 channels and run through various effects. In one the channels the effect was to use the guitar to trigger an Indian ensemble which was driven microtonally. The extremely long coda consists of a harmonic series filter for the lowest A and E, and next to lowest B applied to the guitar performance. (Essentially a major 9th minus the 3rd and 7th).
