gravitational lensing (11-Limit JI ambient)

Monday, June 1st, 2015

A video of me improvising in 11-limit Just Intonation (as seen from the first 1/1 scale degree) using Dimension Pro and a Linnstrument – no audio editing except to fade out. What opens the video is an Einstein horseshoe (the blue semi ring) that is the light from a galaxy behind the one front and center.

Mostly Elevens for Jake (Tempered)

Thursday, May 22nd, 2014

450px-String_theory.svg

Mostly Elevens for Jake is a piano improvisation on my 17 note per octave piano layout. I did edit a good couple dozen notes – the tempo is the what I played it at though. You can find Jake Feivald’s tuning here as a scala file. Why string theory? Who knows. I’m sure there is a reason somewhere.

The Forgotten Glory of Wolf’s Motor Court is an unedited piano improvisation in an 11-limit Hobbit tuning I made with scala. I’m sure it is not unique, I just wanted to play in Just Intonation tonight to finish my day. The tuning follows:

Strangely 16 (animated roll)

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

Strangely 16 is a piano solo using Gene Ward Smith’s Lesfip scale, 11-limit diamond, 10 cents tolerance tuning. Full quality video is here… Claudi Meneghin asked for a harpsichord version which I rendered – but at double time because a realistic harpsichord doesn’t have a sustain pedal, and lacks the “note smearing” a piano can attain which I use to my advantage at the slower tempo.
