The Temple of Clouds is a combination of processed electric 17 edo guitar and timelapse video – at about 5 through 6 minutes you can see a thunderstorm come through. The video was recorded with a Brinno TLC200 time lapse camera. The tuning is unknown though a 17 edo guitar was used to generate the starting point.

My beautiful picture

the obvious signs is a collaboration of poetry by tanner brockwell, performance midi by William Newbold, and synth / arrangement by me in 19 note per octave tuning.

(there is time but it seems gone)

the obvious signs
of the seasonal change
i could name them all
or simply let the new winds
wrap around me in the last light
of the day this day
this near to the end
notched again upon my mind
there is time but it seems gone
slipped like sands
uncountable through fingers
i must find the center
return to a peaceful balance
too long on the edge
dare i dream of contented time
feeling free to let go
i could catch my breath
i could hold it again
finally able to say
hewre is peace

(my limbs sleep numb )
i dreamt
i woke in verdant fields
emerald lay
on this pleasant land
so surprised to see
all about me jade
clumped bursting forth
my limbs sleep numb
trying to stretch them out
my fingers found a leafy mound
warm to touch
and hid beneath
a secret fruit
it i but stirred
i could sense the sweet
allure of a hidden pleasure
but my limbs seized
by some frightful cold
i could not help but swoon
in to dark depths
pull me from my rest
wake me my dear
the sleepy turquoise
to your emerald Verdigris

Red Sands Maunsell Forts

Redsandsforts

Red Sands Maunsell Forts is quasi-ambient piece constructed from loops taken from a 17 edo guitar improvisation and the subsequent loops processed and live sequenced using Sonar’s matrix view (the graphic below). While it doesn’t have the flexibility of Albelton Live, I find the the constructs to be interesting despite being laborious to set up.

Perseus Cluster (processed electric aeolian harp)

NASA-PerseusGalaxyCluster-ChandraXRayObservatory-20140624

Perseus Cluster (processed electric aeolian harp) is an ambient directed aleatoric piece – the wind played the aeolian harp after I tuned it. I recorded the result and then I processed the harp through a battery of effects to create an ambient piece that consists of a drone of processed harmonics.

37 edo Aeolian Harp Prelude is a piece composed by modifying with Melodyne a electric aeolian harp drone chord played by the wind. The approximate original tuning was re-tuned to 37 edo from an imported a scala file I made and then the piece composed by adjusting the individual notes.

Aeolian Edit 2 (17 edo)

aeolian_edit_2 Click graphic to see the tuning and “score” in the melodyne screen capture.

Aeolian Edit 2 is an experiment with manipulation of an electric aeolian harp sample which I added counterpoint and retuned to 17 edo (equal division of the octave). Since the electric aeolian harp yields only harmonics what has been manipulated are the pitch values that the melodyne detection routine decided were root pitches and *not* harmonics. By retuning to 17 I have recomposed the original content into something other than a pure harmonic relationship. My apologies for the large volume changes – in this case I’d rather have close to a constant loudness but do not have that worked out yet.
